Mr Ng is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist expertise in hand, wrist and peripheral nerve surgery. Based at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, he leads a comprehensive NHS practice focused on delivering expert care in these fields. He also provides private consultations as part of the OrthTeam.

Education and Early Career

Mr Ng graduated in 2002 as the most distinguished MBChB graduate of the year, receiving both the Ettles Scholarship and the Leslie Gold Medal from the University of Edinburgh. He completed his orthopaedic training at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he developed a strong foundation in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. His drive for excellence led him to pursue advanced subspecialty training, including an Upper Limb Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital and a National Interface (Orthoplastic) Hand Fellowship in Manchester.

Consultant Appointment and Clinical Leadership

In 2013, Mr Ng was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust. Soon after, he established and developed a new clinical service dedicated to treating brachial plexus injuries and complex peripheral nerve injuries, significantly enhancing the care available to these patients. In addition, he has cultivated a particular expertise in managing scapular wingingpainful neuroma, and scaphoid nonunion, further expanding the quality and scope of care provided to his patients.

In recognition of his contributions to research and clinical innovation, Mr Ng was awarded the Best Example of Research, Innovation and Improvement STAR Award in 2023 at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

Research and Publications

Mr Ng is currently the Research Lead for the Specialist Services Division at his Trust, actively engaging in cutting-edge research and clinical trials. He has authored over 70 publications and contributed 6 book chapters. Additionally, he has shared his expertise through 3 surgical videos featured in the second edition of Wide Awake Hand Surgery and Therapy Tips. Mr Ng is also part of the Wrightington editorial team for a series of textbooks on Sports Injuries of the Upper Limb.

National and International Contributions

Mr Ng has made significant national contributions to the field of hand surgery. From 2018 to 2024, he served as a council member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), influencing key developments in hand surgery across the UK. Internationally, Mr Ng was part of the scientific organising committee for the IFSSH, IFSHT, and FESSH Combined Congress, which was successfully held in London in 2022, contributing to one of the most prestigious global hand surgery events.

Contributions to Training and Education

Mr Ng has played an instrumental role in training the next generation of hand surgeons. From 2015 to 2018, he served as the Upper Limb Fellowship Director at Wrightington Hospital, overseeing the training of future specialists. His leadership continued as the Chair of the Training Interface Group in Hand Surgery from 2021 to 2024, where he oversaw the expansion of approved training units across the UK and updated the JCST Fellowship Hand Surgery Curriculum.

Mr Ng continues his educational contributions as the lead trainer for the Training Interface Group hand fellow at his Trust, mentoring future specialists in the field.
